I'm incredibly passionate about Reflexology, and I think it is something everybody should try. It really is far more than just a foot massage!
The main aim is to calm the body and help to keep everything in balance. When we're stressed and in "fight or flight", a lot of the body's functions are suppressed, such as our digestive and immune systems. Reflexology is incredibly relaxing, and this is actually great for our all-round wellbeing.
The principle of reflexology is based on the understanding that feet and hands can serve as something of a map of the body. The tradition itself is ancient, but numerous researchers over the last 130 years have mapped out and improved our understanding of these meridian zones.
It really is amazing what you can tell just from someone's feet. Blocked nose? Tense shoulders? Indigestion? All of that and more! (Although it can be very insightful please note that I am not a doctor and cannot "diagnose" you with anything!)
And because of this connection, reflexology offers a non-invasive way to help manage tension and pain across the body, and can assist those suffering from headaches, poor sleep, or with conditions such as IBS or sinusitus.
If you want to enjoy the benefits of Reflexology, but don't like your feet being touched, it can also be performed on the hands. Some people find this even more relaxing.
